Randy Travis celebrated his 60th birthday with a crowd-pleasing appearance at the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday, where he celebrated on stage with a big smile, and sang the final "Amen" in his signature song "Forever and Ever, Amen." Carrie Underwood was among the artists who sent video greetings.
Travis has made few public appearances since suffering a massive stroke in 2013; he was left with impaired speech and had to learn to walk again.
On May 14, Travis' memoir will be released. He says he learned about himself in writing "Forever and Ever, Amen: A Memoir of Music, Faith and Braving the Storms of Life". He explains, "I understand that whatever I have done for myself will pass with me, but, whatever I do for mankind will remain."
After revisiting his history, he says, "in my waning years of ability, I have a clearer picture of the past."
